In isogeometric analysis, basis functions generated from NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-splines) are employed to construct an exact geometry model, and they are also applied as a basis for the finite element method. This fosters the formulation and implementation of integrated CAD-FEM environments, which potential simplify work ows in the engineering industry. The exact representation of the CAD geometry in the structural analysis allows more precise and stable computations, whereby the main point is the maintained smoothness of components.
